Riya Thakur is a passionate advocate for Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice. She has over 12 years of experience in advancing the rights of adolescent and young people to access health and information services in India and South Asia Region.
Riya has a proven track record of working with policy makers, governments and multi-stakeholders to drive conducive policies, strengthen health systems, and garner investments and commitments at national and inter-government levels for advancing SRHR of young people.
She recently joined Population Foundation of India (PFI) as the Associate Lead- Youth and Adolescence, where she leads the conceptualization and implementation of the organisation’s Youth and Adolescent work. Prior to this, Riya was part of PFI from 2016 to 2022, providing strategic support to the youth and adolescent vertical as the Sr. Specialist Youth and Adolescence and leading multi-programmes at the national level on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing and Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
In addition to her work at PFI, Riya has also contributed her expertise to other organizations such as IPPF, ICICI Lombard, Jhpiego, EngenderHealth, and Unicef in her previous roles.
Riya holds a post-graduate degree in Rural Development, with a specialization in RCH and Gender Development. Her strong belief in and support for equity for universal access to healthcare has driven her work throughout her career.
