Alok Vajpeyi
Joint Director, Core Grants & Knowledge Management, Delhi

Alok is an experienced Development Professional, M&E Specialist and Researcher with progressive experience in evidence based development. Alok has worked with national and international organizations and has specialization in evaluation design, planning, implementation, and use in multiple contexts and domains. Alok was member of Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group (PME WG) for 2016-18. Alok has led several international and national level research studies, reviews and evaluations. Alok was actively involved in drafting of revised State Population Policy in Uttar Pradesh in 2016 and National ICT in Education policy for Ministry of HRD, GOI in 2007. He has also led the process of Bihar Population Policy Development in collaboration with State Health Society, Bihar in late 2019.

 
Sanghamitra Singh
Senior Manager, Knowledge Management & Partnerships, Delhi

Sanghamitra Singh is a Health Scientist and holds a PhD in Cell Biology, with a focus on type II diabetes, from the George Washington University (GWU), Washington D.C. A scientist by training, but conceptual thinker and communicator by trade, Sanghamitra has extensive experience in conceiving and executing research projects. She has authored a number of peer-reviewed articles and National Institutes of Health (NIH)- commissioned studies. At PFI, Sanghamitra is the technical expert on health issues and her responsibilities include overseeing the development and dissemination of the Foundation’s work, literature and publications. She also works closely with the Executive Director in strengthening and expanding partnerships with key stakeholders. Prior to joining PFI, Sanghamitra worked with GWU, NIH Maryland, Federal Drug Administration (FDA) Maryland, as well as Ajinomoto Corporation, Tokyo. Sanghamitra is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and has a passion for visual arts.

Ritesh Laddha
Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation, Delhi

Ritesh leads in developing the monitoring and evaluation frameworks of programmes and campaigns in PFI. His work entails developing evidences based on the interventions for bringing policy level changes. He has more than nine years of experience in the development sector with Government and Non-government organizations. He has specialised skills in Results Based Management (RBM) and drafting Theory of Change (ToC). Prior to PFI, Ritesh was part of the monitoring, evaluation and learning team at Oxfam India. He has a background in population science and public health management. He holds a Diploma in Population Science (DPS) from the International Institute for Population Science, Mumbai (IIPS-Mumbai) along with Post Graduate Diploma in Health Management (PGDHM) from Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur (IIHMR-Jaipur).

 
J. Pratheeba
Health Economist, Delhi

Dr. J. Pratheeba is a Health Economist at Population Foundation of India. Her work involves providing technical guidance to research studies, generating evidence for strategic engagement, drafting policy notes, technical and research briefs and providing technical support to different projects. She holds a Doctorate in Economics with more than 12 years of work experience in health care financing and development sector issues. Her work experience includes public expenditure tracking, efficiency of resource allocation, National Health Accounts, technical efficiency of health system, issues related to HIV/AIDS, Maternal and Child Health and Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health. Her skills include developing research protocols, identifying methods for data collection, developing tools for data collection, gathering data from primary and secondary sources, data processing, statistical and econometric analysis and drafting analytical research reports. At PFI, Pratheeba is stepping up for communities by providing evidence based solutions to strategic decision making and program action for enhancing their reproductive health needs and overall wellbeing.

Rakesh Chandra Juyal
Officer, Knowledge Management, Delhi

Rakesh is associated as Knowledge Management officer with Population Foundation of India and has more than twenty years of professional experience in knowledge management, digital library project management, library development, and digital archiving. He is specialized in knowledge management and information database designing. He deals with various open source software, customization, managing knowledge portal server, user’s support and administration. He has extensive experience on information system implementation and technical up-gradation in library transformation and knowledge management. Acquisition of resources, abstracting and indexing, online access of resource, data support, information sharing & dissemination at various level, and the institutional repository is also his strong area.

 
Dhruv Kulshrestha
Coordinator, Monitoring and Evaluation, Rajasthan

Dhruv is public health graduate (Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur) with a background in business management (Christ College, Bangalore). He began his career in public health as a research associate (CEHAT, Mumbai) where he participated in multiple on-going health services and systems research based advocacy studies like access to state funded health insurance schemes, free medicine schemes, integration of gender in medical education among other studies. In his last assignment, Dhruv worked with Piramal Swasthya on a project pertaining to improving access to PPTCT services in public health centres in Rajasthan aimed to eliminate HIV transmission among new-borns in close coordination with the state health mission and the state AIDS control society. Dhruv is passionate about playing sports (squash, swimming) and touring on his motorcycle.

Kumar Rajesh
Programme Analyst, Bihar

Kumar Rajesh works as a Program Analyst in PFI Bihar Office. He focusses on generating evidence based insights from the field to aid the program team for improved planning and implementation of activities. He has more than eight years of experience in the development sector with national and international NGOs. He has specialised skills in Monitoring and Evaluation, Program Management and Research. Prior to PFI, Rajesh worked at Evidence Action where he supported Government of Bihar for implementation of National Deworming Day. Prior to this he worked for a USAID funded RCT on School Dropout Prevention in the state of Bihar and with Seva Mandir, Udaipur for a research on Food and Nutrition Security research funded by ICCO Netherlands. He holds a Masters in Development Studies

 
Banoj Kumar Mahanta

Banoj is part of Knowledge Management team and develops M&E tools and techniques, roll out M&E activities and supports in documenting results for projects under PFI. He has over 4 years of experience in the social development sector. He is skilled in designing methods for data collections, data management, data analysis and documentation for large scale surveys and public health projects. Banoj is stepping up for communities by monitoring the PFI-projects and by developing evidences required for policy making for better health outcomes across country.

Priyal is part of the Knowledge Hub and is responsible for managing the online program ARSH for You. She has experience writing news articles for children, NGO impact stories, and running a document delivery service.  Priyal is an avid reader and appreciates art in any form.

Shilpi Shrey
Head - Human Resources, Delhi

Shilpi Shrey has joined Population Foundation of India as Head– Human Resources. She will be responsible for leading the people strategy function, Shilpi has close to 20 years of experience in HR and IR. Prior to this role, Shilpi was Head – Talent Acquisition, HR Tech Transformation & Diversity and inclusion at Piramal Foundation, where she served nearly three years in different roles.

She has worked with different sectors, such as NBFC, Real Estate, Construction in her two-decade long career.

Raam Kumar
Chief Finance Officer, Delhi

Raam Kumar is Chief Financial Officer at PFI. He manages Finance, Administration, Information Technology and Program Operations portfolio at PFI. He comes with a strong 30 years of experience in the field of controlling and reviewing financial data, planning, monitoring internal controls, human resources, managing audits, administration and operations. He has worked across Public sector, private sector and development sector, with the last 20 years as Head of Finance. Prior to joining PFI, he worked as Chief Finance Officer at Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and before that as Director-Finance at Encyclopaedia Britannica India (Pvt.) Ltd. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and has done Masters in Business Administration.

Mandira has worked in the field of Social and Behaviour Change Communication for 20 years. At PFI she leads the communication programmes looking at the best way to combine our digital first approach with engaging and impactful content relevant for all our target audiences. Mandira expertise lies in developing 360 degree social and behaviour change communication campaigns, but she also has a special interest in using technology to reach young people. She is interested in gender, rights, women’s health, communication theories and social media. In her spare time you’ll most likely find Mandira on her farm with her teenage daughters and multiple animals. She is passionate about artisans and textiles, travel, music, cooking, farming and raising feminist and kind daughters.

Mandira is stepping up to make PFI a thought leader and innovator in the field of social and behaviour change communication.

 
Priyasha Banerjie
Manager - Media Communication

Priyasha is an advocacy and communications person whose main interests lie in building strong narratives around public health and development issues to ensure equitable and sustainable change. She worked as a journalist before switching tracks to be part of projects aimed at addressing challenges in areas ranging from tuberculosis (TB) care and management to vaccine hesitancy.

She believes that effective communications play a key part in arriving at a sustainable solution, and has been responsible for sensitizing multiple stakeholders, including government agencies, the media and civil society, about the need for compelling, evidence-based dialogue and strategic action to address urgent gaps in access to quality health care, education and clean air for all.

Bijit Roy
Associate Director, Community Action and Accountability, Delhi

Bijit Roy has over 20 years of experience in planning, implementation and management of large scale nutrition, maternal and child health and HIV/AIDS programmes.
At Population Foundation of India, Bijit leads community action and accountability vertical. as the Associate Director- Community Action and Accountability. Population Foundation of India hosts the Secretariat of the Advisory Group on Community Action (AGCA), a committee constituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to provide guidance and technical support to the state governments to strengthen and scale up community action processes initiatives, particularly related to accountability. The initiative covers 353 districts, 68 cities across 23 states of India. Bijit has previously worked at CARE in the Policy and Advocacy Unit at the India Country Office and managed implementation of the Reproductive and Child Health, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS (RACHNA) programme in the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development from Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi and a Bachelor degree in Political Science from the Banaras Hindu University.

 
Daman Ahuja

Daman Ahuja has 27 years of experience in the development sector in conceptualizing, planning and execution of the Reproductive and Child Health, HIV/AIDS, Community Processes and Child Labour at the grassroots, state and national levels. Mr Ahuja is an ardent speaker and a National trainer on Accountability of Health Issues. He has built the capacity of Government officials under National Health Mission across the country in his role at PFI especially under Advisory Group on Community Action (AGCA) –a project of MoHFW. PFI hosts the Secretariat of AGCA. He received an award from the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, for excellence in coordinating the Red Ribbon Express initiative in 2010.

Smarajit Chakraborty
Senior Manager, Govt Relations & Community Action, Delhi

Smarajit Chakraborty has over 27 years of experience primarily in the areas of public health management, partnership building, networking & policy advocacy, Urban Health, Community participation and Family Planning. He has earlier worked with PFI’s Health of the Urban Poor Project (HUP), CARE India and in UNICEF in the states of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam and Sikkim. Smarajit has also worked as Program Manager in CAH from March 2016 to November 2017 at AGCA Secretariat. He has served Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh(an autonomous body under MoHFW) as Team Leader from November 2017 to March 2019 in Delhi. He holds a post graduate degree from XISS, Ranchi and a master degree in Population Studies from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai. He is pursuing his PhD studies on “Urban Health” from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

He is a development professional with Master of Art in Rural Development, from Indira Gandhi National Open University and has intensive working experience of 14 years in the development sector. Shekh Nausad Akhtar
Programme Manager, Bihar

Shekh Nausad Akhtar is Program Manager who has been associated with Population Foundation of India since last nine years. He has over 15 years of distinctive experience in the development sector, and expertise in manage programs, partnership management, advocacy, community mobilization, system strengthening and capacity building. State level advocacy and coordination with government for the programs of PFI is also one of his important responsibilities. Nausad is stepping up for people by amplifying peoples voice through community mobilisation for people’s reproductive health rights.

 
Saurabh Raj

Mr Saurabh Raj is a Public Health professional with more than eleven years of experience in different areas of the development sector, which include partnership management, programme implementation, advocacy with various stakeholders towards behavior change communication, and monitoring and evaluation. He has previously worked with different national and international organisations including Pathfinder International (NIP), Engender Health, India Red Cross Society, and Population Foundation of India (PFI). He has also supported PFI for the implementation of Community Based Monitoring and Planning (CBMP) programme in Bihar. Ritu Singh
District Program Officer, Bihar

Ritu Singh is a development professional. She is having 10 years of progressively responsible experience in program implementation, social mobilization, outreach experiences for strengthening better health services, advocacy, holistic development of adolescent and youth in their community.
At Population Foundation of India (PFI), she is associated in the capacity of District Program Officer-Darbhanga. She coordinates with District Health Society-Darbhanga for implementation and scaling up Community Action for Health (CAH) program. She also doing advocacy with district level officials for strengthening of Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNC) and improvement of family planning services in the district. Capacity building of partners and motivating community for health entitlements, informed rights is part of contribution in bringing changes in life of people.

 
Seema Upadhyay
Programme Manager, Delhi

Seema Upadhyay has 17 years of experience in different sectors of development, which include community development, health, livelihoods and organizational development. She has worked with the government, NGOs, research institutions and donor agencies handling various aspects of programme management. Ms Upadhyay has previously worked with Seva Mandir, Udaipur on community development; Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur on issues around food security and agriculture; Social Policy Research Institute, Jaipur on tourism, water, power and agriculture issues; NRHM, Jaipur district as District Programme Manager; UNICEF Rajasthan documenting maternal and child health interventions; and ARAVALI, Jaipur on building institutional capacities for working with the poor. Strategic Engagement

Irfan Khan
Associate Director, Family Planning, Delhi

Irfan Khan manages the Family Planning work at Population Foundation of India. He comes with over two decades of experience in the development sector and has worked in many areas including HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Urban Health. He is a firm believer in people’s autonomy and right to choice. One of his most interesting assignments was setting up the Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics in 2016. He is stepping up for people by expanding contraceptive choices and changing the family planning discourse from commodity-centred to people-centred.

 
Shilpa Nair
State Head, UP

Shilpa Nair leads PFI’s work on Gender, Family Planning, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health, Community Action and Behavior Change Communication in the State of Uttar Pradesh. She works closely with government, policy makers, media, NGOs, civil society networks and communities to highlight, prioritize and improve health and wellbeing of women, children and adolescents. In a career spanning over two and half decades, Shilpa has led implementation of several large scale projects providing technical assistance to government institutions, strengthening civil society, mobilizing communities, building champions and catalyzing on ground implementation of health interventions and services. A member of key consultative forums of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, prior to joining PFI, Shilpa has held leadership roles with Global Health Strategies (GHS), Family Health International (FHI 360), CARE International, Program for Appropriate Technologies In Health (PATH), State Innovations in Family Planning Services Project Agency (SIFPSA) and Family Planning Association of India in projects funded by the US Agency for International development (USAID), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) .

Divya Santhanam leads Population Foundation of India’s work on adolescent sexual and reproductive health, gender, teenage pregnancy and behavior change communication in Rajasthan. She works closely with government, policy makers, media, NGO’s, civil society networks and communities to prioritize empowerment and overall wellbeing of adolescents and women in the state. In a career spanning for 15 years, Divya has led implementation of large scale government schemes, provided technical expertise to Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Rajasthan on issues primarily related to youth and adolescent empowerment. Among her core strengths includes Public Policy formulation, Program/ Scheme design and implementing and monitoring participatory interventions in government and non-governmental organizations, Advocacy on adolescent and youth issues (health, protection, skills) and Behavior change communication.

Francesca Barolo Shergill is a Senior Advisor to the Population Foundation of India. She is a development professional with more than 15 years of experience, most of which in India. Raam Kumar is Chief Financial Officer at PFI. He manages Finance, Administration, Information Technology and Program Operations portfolio at PFI. He comes with a strong 30 years of experience in the field of controlling and reviewing financial data, planning, monitoring internal controls, human resources, managing audits, administration and operations. He has worked across Public sector, private sector and development sector, with the last 20 years as Head of Finance. Prior to joining PFI, he worked as Chief Finance Officer at Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and before that as Director-Finance at Encyclopaedia Britannica India (Pvt.) Ltd. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and has done Masters in Business Administration.

 
Alok Vajpeyi

Alok is an experienced Development Professional, M&E Specialist and Researcher with progressive experience in evidence based development. Alok has worked with national and international organizations and has specialization in evaluation design, planning, implementation, and use in multiple contexts and domains. Alok was member of Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group (PME WG) for 2016-18. Alok has led several international and national level research studies, reviews and evaluations. Alok was actively involved in drafting of revised State Population Policy in Uttar Pradesh in 2016 and National ICT in Education policy for Ministry of HRD, GOI in 2007. He has also led the process of Bihar Population Policy Development in collaboration with State Health Society, Bihar in late 2019.

Dipa Nag Chowdhury

Dipa Nag Chowdhury is Director Programmes at Population Foundation of India where she leads the delivery of the organization’s strategic programme objectives related to sexual and reproductive health, gender development and family planning. She is an international development professional with more than 20 years of experience in India, South Asia, and at the global level. Her sectors of work are gender; youth sexual and reproductive health and rights; maternal health; governance and accountability; HIV/AIDS; and secondary education. Her competencies are strategic planning, programme development and management; policy advocacy, research, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity building. From 1998 to April 2019, Dipa worked at the India office of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. In her role as Deputy Director, she led the Foundation’s grantmaking on maternal health, promoting young people’s sexual and reproductive health and girls’ secondary education. Prior to joining the MacArthur Foundation, Dipa worked on issues related with HIV/AIDS at Naz Foundation (India) Trust in Delhi and at the Mailman School of Public Health at the Columbia University in New York, USA. She was also employed at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington DC where she worked on nutrition-related issues. Dipa has masters’ degrees in Public Administration from Syracuse University in the US and Political Science from Mumbai University.

Ms Poonam Muttreja is Executive Director of Population Foundation of India (PFI). She has over 40 years of experience in development – setting up and heading NGOs, contributing to policy and advocacy, creatively building a field, improving organisational capacity, strengthening communications for social good, promoting innovations and scaling up pilots, making grants, teaching, advising, and mentoring.
Ms Muttreja has co-conceived the popular, transmedia initiative, Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon – (I, A Woman, Can Achieve Anything) launched by PFI in 2014. In its third season, the programme has introduced an Artificial Intelligence Intelligence-powered chatbot – SnehAI, a first of its kind behaviour change communication initiative in India.
